What is the deal with Cryptosporidium Parvum Cysts?
Cryptosporidium parvum cysts, also known as oocysts, are the infectious, environmentally resilient form of the parasite that causes cryptosporidiosis. These spherical or ovoid cysts measure about 4 to 6 micrometers in diameter and contain four sporozoites, which are the infectious agents released when the cyst is ingested and reaches the small intestine.

There are two ways of getting infected with these nasty parasites: the handling of infected animals/animal waste; or drinking infected water.
The result of this infection is usually 10 days of a watery stool…or simply put diarrhea. (If you have immune system issues there could be much more severe issues.)
If you do not have a good water filter there is a strong chance you have experienced the effects of a Cryptosporidium Parvum Cysts as a parasite and have survived the experience with nothing more than discomfort in your restroom.
On the other hand, why live with the risk of a cyst, particularly if you live with children, the elderly, or immune-compromised individuals, where the effects can be much more severe. Even if this does not apply to you, who likes diarrhea?
